WASHINGTON COUNTY, WI — A 56-year-old man was injured Friday evening when his motorcycle struck a vehicle on Wisconsin Highway 175 near south Richfield, according to Washington County Insider.
Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and crews with Richfield Fire and Rescue responded to the scene in front of the entrance to Piggly Wiggly grocery store shortly after 7:51 p.m.
An early investigation shows a car was traveling southbound on WIS-175 when it indicated a left turn and began to turn into the store’s main entrance. The motorcyclist was right behind the car when it attempted a passing maneuver to the left of the vehicle at the same time the other driver was turning.
Officials said the motorcyclist then hit the vehicle, causing the rider to lose control, collide with a pole, and eject from his bike.
The victim, who is believed to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was airlifted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. No updates on their condition have been released as of this writing.
The other driver and a bystander remained at the scene and cooperated with responding officers.
An investigation was in progress.
