DOOR COUNTY, WI — Two men were injured Saturday afternoon when two ATVs fell through cracked ice and into Green Bay waters near the Town of Gardner, according to FOX11 News.

The Door County Sheriff’s Department said the events unfolded off County Highway N, about half a mile south of Sugar Creek County Park, shortly before 2:28 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 58-year-old man was behind the wheel of an ATV towing a broken-down ATV driven by a 22-year-old man. Both men were making their way back from a fishing trip when the towing ATV broke through the ice, taking its driver with it. The second driver was able to remain on the ice with the disabled ATV.

Shortly after, a 45-year-old man who had come to assist the party also fell through the ice with his own ATV.

Authorities said the 58-year-old ATV driver was airlifted to a local hospital with undisclosed injuries while the 45-year-old driver received on-scene treatment.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Door County Sheriff’s Department, and multiple nearby fire crews responded to the incident.
