IOWA COUNTY, WI — Two firefighters died early Thursday after a collision involving a fire truck and a semi-truck on U.S. Highway 151 near Mineral Point, according to TMJ4.
The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal accident took place on the northbound lanes at around 12:30 a.m.
An early investigation shows the fire truck was heading northbound and was trying to turn into an emergency crossover when it was hit by the semi. Shortly after, the fire truck burst into flames.
Authorities confirmed two Mineral Point firefighters, the fire truck’s only occupants, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the semi was not reported injured.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the event caused delays in both directions on US-151 as traffic was detoured for several hours.
As of this writing, no details have been disclosed regarding any arrests or pending charges.
