JUNEAU, WI – A vehicle collided with a natural gas pipe in the Juneau area yesterday, resulting in a serious leak that ultimately left more than 1,100 homes without power.

TMJ4 reports that the collision happened on STH 26, about a mile north of Juneau and close to the airport, at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Natural gas was shut off as a result of the crash, as was electricity.

Residents within a mile radius of the leak were evacuated that afternoon, and authorities set up a warming facility at Horicon High School for those left without power.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office closed roads in the area for some time following the crash.
