RACINE COUNTY, WI — A 66-year-old local man has been charged following a hit-and-run crash Saturday, November 11, in Racine that left a pedestrian critically injured, reports FOX 6 Milwaukee.

Racine Police were called to the scene near Douglas Avenue and Layard Avenue, where the female victim was found lying on the ground and being assisted by two other people.

Preliminary details indicate the woman, 27, was walking with another person across Douglas Avenue when she was hit by a vehicle speeding southbound. The suspect vehicle was then observed fleeing the scene down Douglas Avenue.

First responders rushed the victim to a local hospital, but she was later airlifted to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee for several serious injuries, including “a broken pelvis, skull fractures and a broken neck.”

Using camera footage from a nearby bar, authorities were able to identify the white sedan involved, and then subsequently its registered owner, Joaquin Raigoza. Raigoza, who told police that he was unable to use his brakes because “they were too close.” He appeared in Racine County court on Monday, November 13. He has since been placed on house arrest and GPS monitoring, with a cash bond set at $2,500.
