MILWAUKEE, WI — A MCSO deputy was hurt Friday morning when she was dragged by a stolen vehicle for 30 feet during an attempted traffic stop in Milwaukee’s Northpoint area, reports TMJ4.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said the events unfolded in the Lake Park parking lot near Bradford Beach shortly after 11:04 a.m., when a Flock License Plate Recognition camera alerted deputies to a stolen vehicle nearby.

When deputies arrived at the parking lot about 10 minutes later and tried to pull over the vehicle, the driver backed up and struck a parked pickup truck.

Because the driver’s side of the fleeing vehicle had been open during the time, one deputy was dragged for about 30 feet before she was able to dislodge and roll away safely. She was treated at the scene by Milwaukee Fire Department crews for minor scrapes and bruises.

A passenger in the stolen vehicle who had been able to exit the car before it fled was arrested without incident, and a handgun was recovered.

At about 12:30 p.m., authorities located the stolen vehicle, which had been abandoned in the area of Cambridge and Providence along the Milwaukee River.

An investigation and search for the suspect driver remain underway.
