JEFFERSON COUNTY, WI — One person died Monday afternoon after a police pursuit led to a crash that injured two others near the Town of Ixonia, according to TMJ4.
The fatal wreck occurred on the eastbound lanes of Wisconsin State Highway 16 heading into the city from the City of Watertown.
Officials with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said that a deputy had attempted a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle in the City of Watertown at about 12:30 p.m. The speeding driver failed to stop and accelerated away until they entered the Town of Ixonia.
At one point, while trying to pass other vehicles, the fleeing driver lost control of their vehicle, causing it to run off the roadway. Of the three occupants in the vehicle, one was ejected in the crash and died from their injuries at the scene.
First responders rushed the two other occupants, who suffered serious injuries, to an area hospital.
No other injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved.
Authorities have not said whether the person who was killed was the driver or a passenger. An investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol remains underway.
