RACINE COUNTY, WI — A 21-year-old Illinois man died Wednesday morning after a two-vehicle crash involving a stolen car in Caledonia, reports CBS58.
Caledonia police said the fatal accident occurred on Frontage Road near the West 7 Mile Road intersection shortly before 4:50 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates the young man was driving a stolen 2009 Dodge Caliber northbound on Frontage Road when he veered into the southbound lanes. The Dodge collided with an oncoming vehicle before running off the roadway and crashing into a ditch on the road’s west side.
First responders applied life-saving measures to the driver of the Dodge, but he did from his injuries at the scene.
The driver of the southbound vehicle suffered minor injuries, though it was unclear whether or not they were hospitalized. No other injuries were reported.
An investigation by the Caledonia Police Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol was remains ongoing, but authorities said they have learned the 2009 Dodge Caliber had been reported stolen out of Mundelein, Illinois.
