DODGE COUNTY, WI — A 36-year-old Appleton man with warrants out for his arrest was hospitalized after fleeing police and crashing a stolen car in the Town of Lowell, reports We Are Green Bay.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office said the single-vehicle wreck occurred off of Well Road near County Highway G.
Preliminary details indicate Beaver Dam Police Department officers had attempted to pull over a stolen vehicle after being alerted of it through a license plate-reading camera.
A pursuit was prompted when the driver sped away on US-151 toward County Highway W, in the Township of Beaver Dam. After pursuing the fleeing vehicle at a high rate of speed for a limited time, the officers lost sight of the car and ended the chase.
Some time later, the suspect was seriously injured when he crashed the stolen vehicle into a tree off of Well Road. The male driver was placed under custody for Operating While Intoxicated and flown to an area hospital.
Authorities later learned that the stolen vehicle was a rental and had an electronic license plate flipper installed.
The incident is being investigated by the DCSO.
