FOND DU LAC COUNTY, WI — Five people were hurt, one critically, Thursday afternoon when a vehicle slammed into a Verizon store in Fond du Lac, reports TMJ4.

Fond du Lac Police said the incident occurred at 467 North Rolling Meadow Drive at around 12:20 p.m.

According to Fond du Lac Fire Rescue officials, a 20-year-old Oakfield man was impaired while driving northbound on North Rolling Meadows Drive. At one point, his car traveled off the roadway and about 300 feet through a terrace and a section of the parking lot near Pet Smart and Dollar Tree. The car then jumped a curb in the Verizon parking lot before crashing fully into the business’ showroom, which was occupied by multiple customers.

First responders rushed a 29-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries by helicopter to ThedaCare in Neenah.

Three other patients, a 30-year-old man, a 23-year-old man, and a 49-year-old woman, were all transported by ambulance to an area hospital. The extent of their injuries was not immediately clear.

The driver and sole occupant of the striking car, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was also taken to the hospital. Authorities said he was taken into custody for OWI (Operating While Impaired) – Causing Great Bodily Harm.
