WASHINGTON COUNTY, WI — A 61-year-old man died Monday afternoon after a pair of crashes on Wisconsin State Highway 33 near West Bend, according to TMJ4.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the fatal wreck occurred at the intersection with Alpine Drive at about 1:15 p.m.
A preliminary investigation found the victim was driving eastbound on Highway 33 and had slowed down to turn left onto Alpine Drive. Another eastbound driver in the vehicle behind him failed to stop and struck the back of the victim’s stopped vehicle, sending the struck vehicle into oncoming traffic. Moments later, the victim’s vehicle collided with a westbound semi-truck.
The victim, who suffered serious injuries, was airlifted to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Officials said no other injuries were reported.
A section of WIS-33 was blocked off for about three hours during the response and initial investigation.
At this time, no charges have been reported and no further information has been made available.
