MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A 23-year-old man died early Wednesday after crashing a vehicle into South Milwaukee’s Oak Creek while fleeing police, reports TMJ4.
The fatal wreck occurred in the area of North Chicago Avenue and Rawson Avenue, shortly after 3:00 a.m.
According to the Cudahy Police Department, officers spotted a vehicle with its registration improperly display as it was speeding and failing to maintain its lane. A pursuit was initiated and sustained for nearly 3.4 miles, with the fleeing vehicle reaching speeds beyond 100 miles per hour. At one point, officers could no longer see the vehicle and terminated the chase.
40 minutes later, officers with the South Milwaukee Police Department discovered the vehicle crashed into the ravine, and its driver deceased at the scene.
South Milwaukee Police continue to investigate. Few other details have been shared, but Cudahy Police said they later learned there had been a warrant for the young man’s arrest.
