MILWAUKEE, WI — An 18-year-old man was fatally injured late Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle wreck involving a speeding driver in northwest Milwaukee, reports TMJ4.
The collision occurred near the corner of North Sherman Boulevard and West Villard Avenue, in the Old North Milwaukee area, at around 11:45 a.m.
Officials with the Milwaukee Police Department said the victim’s car was struck by a speeding vehicle driven by another 18-year-old man. The occupants of the speeding car initially fled the scene on foot but returned after.
The driver of the speeding vehicle was taken into custody. He and one of his passengers, a 16-year-old boy, were taken to an area hospital for non-fatal injuries and undisclosed injuries, respectively.
The driver of the victim car, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Authorities later recovered security footage from a nearby business that shows a silver car heading southbound on Sherman and running the red light at Villard before it is hit by a black car traveling eastbound. The black car is seen continuing down the road out of frame as the silver car spins.
An investigation remains ongoing, and the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office is expected to review criminal charges.
