OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI — A vehicle fire was reported early Wednesday near a home in southeast Appleton, according to We Are Green Bay.

Appleton Fire Department crews were called to the scene in the 1800 block of South Peabody Street shortly after 2:15 a.m.

It was unclear whether a crash caused the blaze, but firefighters arrived to find the passenger compartment of a minivan engulfed in flames about two feet from a detached garage.

Authorities said the home’s occupants were trying to extinguish the fire at the time fire crews responded. Within five minutes, firefighters were able to put out the flames.

Though the fire did not spread to the detached garage, some heat damage could be observed on the garage siding, and the vehicle appeared to be totaled.

At this time, the cause of the fire has not been reported.
