WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI — Three people were hospitalized early Sunday after a car crashed into an apartment building during a police pursuit in northeast Waukesha, according to TMJ4.
The wreck occurred at the Spring City Crossing apartment complex off White Rock Avenue, near Frame Park Formal Gardens, just after 1:00 a.m.
Waukesha Police said officers had begun pursuing a vehicle in the area of Moreland Frame Park after its driver fled an attempted traffic stop. After speeding and driving recklessly through multiple residential areas, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the side of the complex’s parking garage and storage area area.
The wrecked vehicle caught fire moments after the crash, but officers were able to rescue all three suspects from the vehicle and put out the flames.
All three suspects, ages 18, 21, and 30, were all transported to a local hospital for undisclosed injuries. One officer suffered a laceration to his arm during the rescue.
No one in the building was report hurt, but all occupants had to evacuate the building at the time of the incident. The damage to the property is estimated to be $20,000 in cost.
It was unclear why officers had initially tried to pull over the suspects, but authorities said the vehicle had been stolen out of Chicago. All three occupants, who were wearing ski masks and rubber gloves, were believed to have committed other crimes in the area prior to the police chase.
