RACINE COUNTY, WI — Several people were hospitalized Saturday night after a suspected OWI crash on Wisconsin Highway 20 in Mount Pleasant, according to FOX 6 Milwaukee.
The wreck occurred on a span of the highway (Washington Avenue) at Oakes Road. Mount Pleasant Police were initially responding to a call about a wrong-way driver near Washington Avenue and Commerce Drive at about 7:20 p.m. when they got another call about the crash.
A preliminary investigation shows a 23-year-old Racine resident was driving a red Kia in the wrong direction when the car collided head-on with another vehicle. Authorities said up to three vehicles were ultimately impacted.
Occupants in the victim vehicles suffered “severe” but non-life-threatening injuries and had to be extricated.
It was unclear whether the wrong-way driver was among those injured and hospitalized, but the Racine resident faces multiple charges, including a second offense of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Injury, three counts of Recklessly Endangering Safety, Reckless Injury in the first degree, and Bail Jumping.
An investigation by Mount Pleasant Police and the Wisconsin State Patrol remains underway.
