RACINE COUNTY, WI — A 69-year-old man died last Thursday, December 22, after being hit by a vehicle on Erie Street in north Racine, according to TMJ4.

Racine Police said the fatal incident occurred at the intersection with Hagerer Street shortly after 10:00 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates the man had stepped outside to start his car when he was struck by a vehicle which then continued driving away.

First responders arrived on the scene to find the male victim in the roadway. He was initially rushed to an area hospital and then airlifted to another hospital in Milwaukee. The patient, a Racine resident, was later pronounced deceased.

A search for the suspect driver and an investigation remain ongoing. Based on vehicle parts recovered at the crash site, authorities believe the fleeing vehicle is a gray or silver 2019-2022 Subaru Ascent.
