OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI — A 58-year-old Appleton man died Tuesday afternoon after a collision that seriously injured another person on County Trunk Highway A near Markesan, reports NBC26.
The fatal wreck occurred at the intersection with County Trunk Highway South, about eight miles north of Appleton. Officers with the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at around 1:45 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates a 60-year-old Shiocton man was behind the wheel of a pickup truck heading southbound on County Trunk A toward the intersection. At the same time, the Appleton man was driving a passenger car westbound on County Trunk S before the stop sign at County Trunk A. The Appleton man failed to yield to the pickup truck’s right of way, and the passenger car was struck moments after it entered the intersection.
The Appleton man died from his injuries at the scene, confirmed officials.
First responders rushed the driver of the pickup truck to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The area around the intersection was blocked off for multiple hours during the response.
An investigation remains ongoing.
