OCONTO COUNTY, WI — One person died late last Friday, October 7, after a single-vehicle crash near Finnegan Lake in the Town of Gillett, reports WBAY.
The fatal accident happened on Old 22 Road near Finnegan Lake Lane. Officials with the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and multiple local agencies were called to the scene shortly after 11:00 p.m.
An early investigation indicates a vehicle was heading westbound on the road when, for reasons still unknown, it veered off the roadway and crashed into a ditch. Deputies arrived to find the vehicle on fire in a wooded area.
The driver was later pronounced deceased at the scene, confirmed officials.
An investigation by the OCSO, the WSP, and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office remains underway.
