News: Pedestrian killed by hit-and-run driver on Washington Ave in Racine

RACINE COUNTY, WI — A 59-year-old man died Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in southwest Racine, reports TMJ4.

Racine Police responded to the scene near Washington Avenue and Phillips Avenue, south of Washington Park High School, at about 7:00 p.m.

According to authorities, the man had just exited a friend’s car and was walking around to the other side of the vehicle in order to cross Washington Avenue. The witness in the car told police he then heard a crash and saw the victim on the roadway and the striking car fleeing the scene.

Officers arrived to find the male pedestrian deceased at the scene.

Though the striking vehicle was later discovered parked and abandoned, authorities have not identified or arrested a suspect.
