DOOR COUNTY, WI — A 71-year-old Sturgeon Bay woman died Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle on County Road BB near Sevastopol, according to NBC26.
Officials with the Door County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene west of Old Highway Road (Wisconsin Highway 42 Business).
A preliminary investigation indicates the female pedestrian had been hit by a 2013 Ford Escape SUV. After striking the victim, the SUV continued traveling westbound on CTH BB until it veered into the eastbound lane, and ran into the south ditch entangled in a span of fence. Its driver, a 43-year-old Sturgeon Bay resident, fled the scene on foot but was later found and taken into custody.
First responders applied life-saving measures to the victim before rushing her to Door County Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.
A section of County Road BB was shut down for six hours during the response.
An investigation was being handled by the Wisconsin State Patrol Crash Reconstruction Unit.
