KENOSHA COUNTY, WI — A 66-year-old Illinois man died last Saturday, July 30, after crashing his drag car at a high rate of speed in Union Grove, according to FOX6 Milwaukee.
Deputies with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at Great Lakes Dragaway, off 1st Street, at around 4:30 p.m.
An early investigation indicates the man was racing a custom, late-model Corvette on the track when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a concrete wall. Officials said the car had been traveling at 200 miles per hour at the time of impact.
The driver, who was wearing a helmet and complete safety restraints, was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
No other occupants were in the vehicle at the time, and no other injuries were reported.
An investigation remains ongoing.
