OZAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A 41-year-old man was taken into custody Thursday night after fleeing deputies and causing an injury crash on Interstate 43 near Mequon, reports TMJ4.
The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office said the collision occurred near West County Line Road, shortly after 8:00 p.m.
According to officials, deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop on a SUV after receiving a driving complaint. Its driver sped away after initially pulling over, but the OCSO said deputies did not pursue the SUV. Moments later, they received a call about a two-vehicle wreck involving the fleeing driver.
The driver of the victim vehicle suffered undisclosed injuries in the collision. While the suspect fled the scene on foot, deputies and the Mequon Police Department later apprehended the man, who was found hiding in the basement of a nearby home.
It was unclear whether the suspect was hurt in the earlier wreck, but he was evaluated and medically cleared at a nearby hospital.
The OCSO said the suspect faces multiple charges, including “fleeing/eluding” and “hit and run causing injury.”
