MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — Three people were taken into custody early Thursday after a high-speed police chase led to a collision on Interstate 41 near Wauwatosa, reports FOX6 Milwaukee.
The Wisconsin State Patrol said the wreck occurred on a span of the interstate near West Burleigh Street.
A preliminary investigation indicates WSP troopers initially attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Nissan Rogue for speeding near Germantown at around midnight. The driver failed to stop and sped away from troopers, reaching speeds of up to 116 miles per hour.
Officials said as the Rogue continued down I-41, someone in the vehicle tossed out objects out the window near Maple Road. With the help of drones and metal detectors, investigators later found bullets on the interstate.
At one point, troopers discontinued the chase, and the Rogue continued for another 14 miles before it lost control. The vehicle then traveled off the roadway, struck a sign and came to a stop in a ditch.
No major injuries were reported, but three people, including “two female adults and one male” were arrested at the scene. A baby was also a passenger in the vehicle.
Officials later noted that although bullets were found on the roadway, no gun was recovered from the vehicle.
