MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A woman was hospitalized Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in southwest Oak Creek, according to WISN.

The incident occurred in front of the Cousin Subs restaurant off the South 27th Street and West Ryan Road intersection, shortly before 10:00 a.m.

An early investigation indicates the woman was crossing West Ryan Road on her bike after having seen no oncoming traffic in either direction. As she began to travel across the road, she was hit by a driver who was entering the road from a driveway near the neighboring Dunkin’ Donuts.

The victim told authorities she swerved to avoid the vehicle, but the driver struck the back of her tire, sending her off the bicycle.

Witnesses in a nearby physical therapy office rushed to her aid, but the driver fled the scene.

The victim suffered a broken knee and was taken to a local hospital. She is scheduled to undergo surgery Thursday.

No details on the suspect driver or vehicle have been released at this time.
