WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI — A trailer carrying propane tanks caught fire and exploded Sunday morning, prompting the closure of two roads and an evacuation advisory for three residences in New Berlin, reports Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The explosion occurred in the 3200 block of South Moorland Road at aroound 6:00 a.m.

According to the New Berlin Fire Department, a utility trailer, used by a New Berlin company for concrete work, was parked in the area and contained ten 20-pound propane cylinders when it caught fire. Shortly after, the cylinders exploded.

An investigation remains underway, but officials believe an electrical malfunction inside the trailer may have started the fire, which led to the propane cylinders venting and exploding in the trailer.

The incident sent a propane tank and trailer debris flying nearly 200 feet in the air, but no injuries or damages to nearby residences were reported.

Nineteen police and fire crew members were able to control the flames within about 10 minutes.
