DOOR COUNTY, WI — One person died Tuesday night after a single-vehicle collision that injured another on Heritage Lake Road in the town of Egg Harbor, reports WBAY.
The fatal crash happened on the northbound side of the road near County Road E, shortly before 9:00 p.m.
An early investigation by the Door County Sheriff’s Office indicates a Dodge pickup truck was heading northbound on Heritage Lake Road when its driver lost control of the vehicle. Moments later, the truck veered into the west ditch, where it collided with a large tree and a power pole.
A DCSO deputy arrived to find the pickup engulfed in flames, and one victim lying outside the vehicle. Officials said the deputy administered aid to the patient away from the truck, which was undergoing a series of minor explosions.
After the flames were extinguished, a second victim was found deceased in the vehicle.
Medics rushed the other victim by medical helicopter to a nearby hospital. No updates on the patient’s condition has been disclosed at this time.
An investigation by the DCSO and the Wisconsin State Patrol’s Crash Reconstruction Unit was underway.
