OCONTO COUNTY, WI — A 56-year-old Illinois man died Sunday night after being ejected from a utility terrain vehicle driven by an OWI suspect in the town of Doty, reports Green Bay Press Gazette.

The fatal incident took place near Boulder Lane and Oconto Trunk Highway T at around 9:07 p.m.

A preliminary investigation shows a 53-year-old Waukesha man was operating the UTV when he accelerated. The victim, who was a passenger, fell off from the cargo bed of the vehicle and struck his head against the pavement.

The patient was rushed by ambulance to Aspirus Langlade Hospital in Antigo. Authorities confirmed the patient, a resident of West Chicago, later died from his injuries.

The driver of the UTV was arrested by an Oconto County Sheriff’s deputy and booked into the Oconto County Jail. Officials said he faces a charge of “operating a UTV while intoxicated” and “causing injury.”

No further information has been released as of this writing.
