MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A 250-pound black bear was fatally struck by a truck early Wednesday morning on Interstate 43 near the Hale Interchange in Greenfield, according to CBS58.
The incident occurred in the eastbound lanes near South 92nd Street at around 1:00 a.m.
Officials with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said a driver in a truck was traveling from the north to eastbound side of the interchange when the vehicle hit the bear in lane one.
The lane was shut down and remained closed for nearly an hour as crews worked to remove the bear from the roadway.
Deputies confirmed they had observed a black bear in the area on Tuesday, the day before, but it was unclear whether the bear killed is the same bear.
No injuries to the driver or anyone else were reported.
