MILWAUKEE, WI — Seven people, including two officers, were injured early Monday evening in two crashes during a police pursuit in Milwaukee’s Garden Homes area, reports TMJ4.

The pair of crashes occurred near West Capitol Drive and North Teutonia Avenue, shortly after 5:00 p.m.

According to the Milwaukee Police Department, officers had attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for reckless driving and having no license plate near North 24th Street and West Atkinson Avenue.

While the driver initially stopped, they soon sped off, prompting a chase. A marked squad car ended up striking another vehicle at Teutonia and Capitol and the reckless driver ultimately crashed into two other vehicles at Teutonia and Vienna.

Authorities said a 19-year-old suspect in the reckless car, which was stolen, fled on foot but was later arrested and brought to a hospital. Two other occupants in the same vehicle had also left on foot but were found to have gone to a nearby hospital.

Two bystanders, including a 28-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man, both suffered injuries. The woman is expected to recover but the man was left in critical condition.

Two officers, aged 24 and 35, were also both transported to a hospital with undisclosed injuries. They have since been place on administrative duty, per department policy following such an incident.

An investigation by the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team and the Waukesha Police Department was underway.
