MILWAUKEE, WI — A 27-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man died early Wednesday after a wrong-way crash on Interstate 43/94 in Milwaukee’s Baran Park area, reports WISN.
The fatal wreck occurred on the southbound lanes near South Chase Avenue, shortly before 2:00 a.m.
According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was driving northbound in the southbound lanes prior to colliding head-on with the teen’s vehicle.
Both drivers were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities diverted all southbound traffic at East Becher Street during the emergency response and investigation.
At around 7:30 a.m., about five hours later, the scene had cleared and all lanes were reopened.
At this time, it is unclear how the wrong-way driver had gotten on the highway or how long she had been traveling against traffic before the crash.
