MILWAUKEE, WI — One person died early Tuesday morning in a vehicle crash near Milwaukee’s south side after fleeing Greenfield police, according to WISN.
Greenfield Police said the fatal crash happened just east of 13th Street and Layton Avenue at around 2:05 a.m.
Officers said they first tried to conduct a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle in the area of 27th Street and Howard Avenue in Greenfield at about 1:40 a.m. A chase was prompted when the driver sped away, but was said to have been terminated as the suspect began reaching speeds close to 100 miles per hour.
The driver, a 38-year-old man, later lost control of his car and crashed. It was not immediately clear whether the driver or a passenger in the vehicle died.
No further information has been made available at this time, but an investigation remains ongoing.
