MILWAUKEE, WI — A 40-year-old man died Tuesday evening after a two-car rollover collision that injured a woman and a toddler in northwest Milwaukee, according to TMJ4.
The fatal incident occurred near North 37th Street and West Sheridan Avenue, in the Old North Milwaukee neighborhood, shortly after 6:00 p.m.
Officials with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said the events unfolded when deputies spotted a reckless driver and tried to conduct a traffic stop on North Sherman Boulevard, south of West Hampton Avenue.
Deputies pursued the vehicle as it sped away northbound on Sherman and ran red lights across two intersections. Deputies were said to have ended the pursuit after their patrol car hit a parked vehicle.
Not long after, authorities were alerted that the suspect vehicle had struck another vehicle occupied by three victims.
Milwaukee Fire crews had to extricate all three patients, who had become trapped when their car rolled over.
A 43-year-old woman and a one-year-old baby were taken to Froedtert Hospital and Children’s Hospital, respectively. Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Medics administered life-saving measures to the 40-year-old male victim, but he was later pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officials said the driver and a passenger in the suspect vehicle fled the scene on foot.
Two investigations were being led by the Sheriff’s Office and the Milwaukee Police Department. No further details have been shared at this time.
