WAUPACA COUNTY, WI — A 75-year-old woman was killed Friday afternoon in a single-vehicle collision off U.S. Highway 10 near south Weyauwega, according to Wausau Pilot & Review.
The fatal accident occurred on the westbound lanes near the exit to County Road F, or Pine Street, at about 2:30 p.m.
An early investigation by the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office indicates the woman was driving westbound when, for reasons still being investigated, she veered off the roadway. Her vehicle then hit the end of a guardrail, traveled down an embankment, and came to a stop in a field near the offramp.
Authorities said the woman, who had to be extricated from the wreckage, died from her injuries at the scene.
Her passenger, a 77-year-old man, was not reported injured.
Multiple agencies, including the Weyauwega Police Department, the Weyauwega Fire Department, and the Gold Cross Ambulance Service, assisted at the scene.
An investigation remains ongoing.
