MARINETTE COUNTY, WI — A 62-year-old woman died Saturday after a single-vehicle accident that injured another near northwest Crivitz, reports Green Bay Press Gazette.
The fatal collision occurred on Parkway Road near Eagle Road, about 17 miles west of Wausaukee and 18 miles northwest from Crivitz.
According to Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve, one woman was behind the wheel of a southbound four-door SUV with another female occupant in the vehicle. At one point, the SUV veered off the roadway and into the east ditch near the intersection.
One of the women, a Greenleaf resident, was ejected during the crash and pronounced deceased at the scene. It was not immediately clear whether or not she was the driver. The sheriff’s office noted that her death marks the county’s first traffic fatality this year.
The other female occupant, a 48-year-old De Pere resident, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
An investigation remains underway, though at this time authorities believe excessive speed and intoxication contributed to the wreck.
