WASHINGTON COUNTY, WI — A 91-year-old man died Sunday afternoon after a single-vehicle accident near Northbrook Church in the village of Richfield, according to Express News.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal collision occurred in the 3900 block of Holy Hill Road (Wisconsin Highway 167, Hiawatha Pioneer Trail) at about 12:56 p.m.

Little information has been shared on the events leading up to the crash, but authorities said the man’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, causing the car’s airbags to deploy. A passerby found the victim, the vehicle’s sole occupant, barely conscious.

Washington County Deputies and Richfield Fire crews responded to the scene and worked to extricate the driver out of the wreckage.

The victim was rushed by ground ambulance to Froedtert Menomonee Falls, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities initially believed that the crash and the victim’s cause of death were due to a medical emergency. However, an autopsy later confirmed his primary cause of death to be trauma sustained in the crash.

An investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Medical Examiner’s Office remains ongoing.
