ROCK COUNTY, WI — A semi-trailer caught fire early Tuesday morning, forcing sections of Interstate 90 to close near northeast Beloit, according to We Are Green Bay.
Crews with the Beloit Fire Department responded to the scene on the southbound lanes near the East Hart Road overpass at about 3:45 a.m.
It was unclear whether or not a collision caused the semi to burst into flames, but traffic was backed up on the highway shortly after.
Authorities confirmed no injuries in the event, but the overpass was said to have sustained serious heat damage.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames for about an hour and remained at the site for multiple hours following to control hot spots. More than 10,000 gallons of water was used.
Crews also stayed behind to take apart the trailer and remove cargo from the scene.
The overpass was shut down pending an inspection by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
