WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI — A train struck a passenger car Tuesday night after a driver appeared to have mistaken the railway tracks for a roadway in downtown Waukesha, reports The Freeman.

The incident occurred near the intersection of East Broadway and Pleasant Street, in front of the Let’s Roll Tobacco & Liquor shop, at around 11:22 p.m.

Waukesha Police Department said the driver is believed to have accidentally turned onto the tracks and traveled for about 75 yards before their vehicle got stuck.

Witnesses told authorities the driver was able to vacate the disabled vehicle with two bags of groceries before the train hit the car shortly after.

No injuries were reported in the event.

Authorities said the driver has since been identified but was said to not be cooperating with WPD’s investigation.
