WASHINGTON COUNTY, WI — A 48-year-old Florida man was arrested Sunday for his role in a fatal crash two nights prior on U.S. Highway 45 near Jackson, reports We Are Green Bay.

The collision occurred near Exit 63 to Wisconsin Highway 60 on Friday, January 7, at around 8:00 p.m.

According to an investigation by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect was driving a semi-tractor northbound on the highway when he missed his exit to WIS-60 and came to a full stop in a moving lane of traffic. Surveillance footage shows him turning on his hazard lights as he began to back up on the highway. Moments later, the trailer was struck by a van.

The driver of the van, a 49-year-old West Bend man, died as a result of his injuries.

Authorities said the suspect, who had initially told them he was rear-ended by the victim after slowing down to exit, had fled town but was later apprehended in Illinois. He later admitted to his role in the crash and, as of this writing, was waiting for extradition back to Wisconsin.
