RACINE COUNTY, WI — A 79-year-old man was hospitalized Tuesday morning after his plane crashed into a fuel tanker truck during takeoff at Sylvania Airport in Sturtevant, reports WISN.

Deputies responded to the scene at 2624 South Sylvania Avenue.

Authorities said a single-engine Cessna airplane had sustained severe front-end damage and was found at rest next to the tanker truck. The plane was found to be leaking fuel, but no flames or signs of smoke were spotted at the scene.

The male pilot, who was conscious and breathing after the incident, was aiflifted to Froedtert Hospital. The severity of his condition was not disclosed.

It was unclear whether or not the truck was occupied at the time, but no other injuries have been reported.

An early investigation indicates that the plane’s wing had clipped the fuel tanker truck moments before take-off, causing the plane to spin around and strike the truck head-on.

No further information has been released at this time.
