RACINE COUNTY, WI — Two people were hospitalized early Sunday after a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 41 near the town of Raymond, according to FOX6 Milwaukee.
Racine County deputies responded to the scene of a fiery crash shortly after 2:00 a.m.
A preliminary investigation indicates a 30-year-old man was behind the wheel of a car when he swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle and hit a barrier. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to lose control and be sent across four lanes of the interstate before striking a median wall. Shortly after, the vehicle burst into flames.
The driver and his 37-year-old passenger were both transported to Milwaukee’s Froedtert Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The event forced three lanes to shut down for about one and a half hours as crews responded.
An investigation into the cause of the accident was underway. Authorities said they do not believe the driver was impaired at the time.
