News: 72-year-old patient killed in Wausau ambulance crash

WAUSAU, WI – A 72-year-old man died yesterday when an Riverside ambulance he was in was involved in a major collision in Wausau.

According to the News-Observer, the ambulance driver ran the red light at the intersection of Scott Street and North First Street shortly before 6:30 p.m. and crashed into a northbound passenger vehicle.

The man in the ambulance, who was being transported to Spirus Wausau Hospital, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear if he was killed as a result of the crash or the previous incident that necessitated the ambulance.

Other occupants in the ambulance and the second vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.

The driver of the ambulance was cited for failure to obey a red traffic signal.
